- Programme Duration: 6 Months (384 Service Hours)
- Stipend: Approximately R1,547 per month (R24.18 per hour)
Job Purpose
The National Youth Service (NYS) Programme provides unemployed youth with an opportunity to gain practical work experience, develop valuable skills, and contribute to community development initiatives. Participants will work on community-based projects that support social, environmental, educational, and economic development within their local communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in community service projects and development programmes.
- Assist with sports and recreation initiatives.
- Support community greening, cleaning, and revitalisation projects.
- Assist with learner support and educational programmes.
- Participate in Early Childhood Development (ECD) activities.
- Support food security and nutrition projects.
- Assist with arts, culture, and entertainment programmes.
- Contribute to social support and community care initiatives.
- Participate in surveys, data collection, and digital mapping projects.
- Support youth awareness and voter education campaigns.
- Attend training and development sessions as required.
- Maintain accurate records of activities and hours worked.
- Represent the programme positively within the community.
Minimum Requirements
- South African citizen with a valid South African ID.
- Aged between 18 and 35 years.
- Resident of the municipality or community where the programme is implemented.
- Unemployed and preferably not currently studying or employed.
- Able to travel to the designated service site.
- Willing to participate in community development projects.
- Must not have participated in previous phases of the National Youth Service Programme.
