Find Work From Home Job at The Houst
About the Company
Houst is a property management company that specialises in short-term and holiday rentals. The company basically handles bookings on a home/property owner’s behalf and takes care of the cleaning, guest communications and property listing.
The company provides management services for individuals who wish to put their homes/properties on short-term rent. The company has its headquarters in London, England.
Houst was founded in 2015 under the name Airsorted with the objective of ‘building a global platform that makes it easier to share your home (hassle-free hosting) for everyone.’

When Houst posts job openings, they will clearly state the location they are hiring from for that position. While they may have many openings, be mindful that you must fall into the specified hiring location to be considered.
Qualifications & Experience Required
With Houst having so many departments, it is nearly impossible for the company to have a standardised list of qualifications and experience required for candidates.
Every position has a specific set of requirements. In order to be considered, you should meet most of the requirements. Whether it is having a qualification, experience (in years), or knowledge of how to use the required systems. Be sure to go through the overview of the position in detail and adjust your CV accordingly.
Tools & Materials that are Required
Houst provides staff with a laptop for business use.
I recommend having strong Wi-Fi connectivity, ideally unlimited Fibre. Something that would benefit you and assist you in interruption-free days is a PSU (power supply unit) device. Load shedding can be unpredictable and disruptive, so having alternatives in place could make for easier work-from-home conditions.
Pros of working for Houst
Houst is different from the other remote/hybrid working companies that are always advertising openings. Reviews prove that a majority of staff are very happy working for the company and extremely satisfied with the benefits offered. Let’s go through a few of those benefits.
Hybrid and Remote working:
In Cape Town, South Africa, Houst has offices that are available for staff living in the area to work from. The company allows for flexible working. Employees have the flexibility to work from home or the office on different days, with specified schedules that cannot be changed. There is no commuting every single day.
Paid holidays (your birthday included):
Houst provides employees with 35 days of paid leave – including public holidays! You also get a bonus day off on your birthday. The company is transparent about allowing their staff off days. Many Glassdoor reviews have praised the company for the accommodating leave benefits.
Employee Discounts:
Houst provides employees with discounts at restaurants, shops, gym memberships, movie tickets and more. It is unclear as to how much the discounts are and where they can be applied, so I’m sure it is an employee privilege to know the specific information. Either way, this is something that not a lot of companies offer.
Wellbeing Support:
Houst is very supportive of employees’ mental health and overall well-being. The company has a well-being hub that offers staff a variety of online fitness, nutrition, yoga meditation and talking therapy classes.
Cons of Working for Houst
Houst has many pros to entice prospective employees, but it’s important to note that every company has some sort of con associated with the organisation. After reading through employee reviews left on Glassdoor and Indeed, the following are some negatives.
Difficult Senior Management:
Many employees often noted that the senior management in Houst was ‘difficult and unreasonable’ to work with. Reasons included that they were very untimely with responding to urgent emails and setting targets that were nearly impossible to achieve, with little or no guidance.
No Career Growth:
Like many remote companies, there is no room for staff to grow within their career. Once you get put into a position, you will stay there unless you apply for a more senior position. There is no manager who will take notice of your hard work and recommend you for new positions. Many Houst employees have stayed in the same role for up to 5 years. If you are someone who likes a challenge and wants to be noticed for your work ethic, you might find this con off-putting.
No Year-End Bonus:
According to a past employee, Houst does not offer staff year-end bonuses unless someone advocates for them. It seems wrong that staff essentially need to fight to be heard regarding this matter. It doesn’t seem like staff morale is high within the company. Year-end bonuses are one of the most common benefits offered to employees.
