Durban Girls’ College is Hiring a BOARDER MISTRESS
Founded in 1877, Durban Girls’ College is a leading independent Christian girls’ school with a proud history that offers an innovative, forward looking and relevant education for girls from Grade 00 to Matric.
College House, our boarding establishment, is seeking an outgoing, friendly and mature female student to join our residential team from July 2026 to December 2026, with the potential for renewal in 2027. This position would suit a responsible young adult with strong emotional intelligence, good interpersonal skills and a genuine desire to invest in the lives of teenage girls. The successful candidate will be a positive role model who enjoys working with young people and contributing to a vibrant boarding community.
Requirements:
- Assist the House Mother and staff in the day-to-day running of College House which will involve evening and weekend duties as required.
- Support the wellbeing, welfare and pastoral care of weekly boarders.
- Build positive relationships with boarders from Grade 8 to Grade 12.
- Promote and uphold the Christian ethos, values and culture of Durban Girls’ College.
- Model appropriate behaviour, maturity and good judgement at all times
- Adhere to all boarding house safeguarding policies, procedures and expectations.
- Able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Organised, flexible and willing to assist where needed.
- Reside in College House for the duration of the contract.
- Previous experience working in a boarding environment would be advantageous.
A single room and weekday term-time meals will be provided in lieu of service to College House for the duration of the contract.
