Chicken Drumstick Stew

I love chicken stews, and this particular recipe is for chicken drumstick stew. Not only do they go with a number of sides, they are healthy, and they fall into the category of healthy comfort foods for me.

This is an easy recipe to follow that is budget friendly as it does not have a lot of ingredients. This chicken stew has a lot of flavor, and the prep + cooking time are 30 minutes.

Chicken drimstick stew

Ingredients You Will Need

  • 8 Chicken Drumsticks
  • Tomato paste or diced fresh tomatoes
  • 1 medium onion
  • Garlic
  • Honey
  • paprika
  • Soy Sauce
  • Salt for salt
  • Cooking Oil – Tablespoon

Cooking Method

  1. Heat up the pot with the cooking oil
  2. Add the drumsticks and “fry” until golden
  3. Finally, add the rest of the ingredients and cover your post for 20-30 minutes. Do not add any liquid, and leave the pot simmering on low heat. I do open the pots to stir the stew from time to time to ensure that it is not burning or sticking to the bottom of the pot
  4. To thicken your stew, remove the lid once the stew is ready to ensure the excess water evaporates for like 5 minutes. (whilst it is still on the heat or stove)

Key Notes

  • Oil: Most stews use vegetable oil or coconut oil. I prefer to use vegetable oil because that what I am used to. (old habits die hard.)
  • Yellow onion and fresh garlic: Yellow onions and garlic are the first layer of mouthwatering flavor in most stew dishes. You can use red onion or white onion instead of yellow, and adding more garlic is never a bad idea.
