Set up temporary road signs, traffic cones, and barricades at work sites in accordance with standard operating procedures to direct traffic around hazards or work that is currently underway.

  • Construct and/or repair concrete kerbing that serves as a border between the roadway and the pavement.
  • Engage in the construction and/or rehabilitation of stormwater Kerb Inlets (KIs).
  • Provide assistance to the crane operator(s) in the removal of concrete slabs as required. Ensure that KIs are cleansed and unblocked as needed.
  • Clear the earth channel/open the channel. Clean the appropriate instruments.
  • Complete all other tasks specified in the inspection document.
  • Address citizen concerns and complaints at the labour site.
  • Perform manual labour in accordance with standard operating procedures, which may include, but is not limited to, the following: digging ditches, cleaning and installing culverts, removing detritus from roadways and shoulders, and repairing potholes and/or cracked and broken pavement for patching.
  • Construct and/or repair road manholes as required and install stormwater piping. Constructing and/or repairing speed bumps.
  • Fixing footways and craters. Utilising appropriate machinery and equipment, working on surfaces that are tarred and/or gravel. Resurfacing. • Deep patching and skin patching. Road marking. Crack sealing. Mow, cut, stack, and chip vegetation; haul vegetation and other detritus; load and apply sand and gravel to roads; trim trees, shrubs, and other plants.
  • Load and transport road materials; excavate dirt and other materials, dig ditches, rip asphalt, install culvert pipes, backfill trenches, cut road grade, clear brush and debris, and widen roads; spread paving materials, smooth and level gravel roadways, remove slides, and contour roadways; spread rock chips for the roadbed; road sealing.

REQUIREMENTS AND SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Grade 10 or NQF equivalent.
  • Six (6) months’ experience in handling road construction maintenance and/or building machinery or equipment.
