Who we’re looking for
We are looking for an experienced and detail-loving Shipping Coordinator to join our tight-knit and high-performing team. You are a logistics whiz with top-notch communication skills and a knack for solving problems before they even pop up. With your experience in logistics you’ve got the lowdown on shipping processes, haggling with carriers, and making international logistics look like a piece of cake. You can handle a bunch of things at once, making sure shipments are spot on time. Being super detailed when prepping shipping docs and keeping an eagle eye on the whole process comes naturally to you. You love the hustle, shifting gears with changing priorities. Your goal? Keeping our shipping game sharp, efficient, and always on point.
What your role looks like
Responsible for imports logistics, including the execution of shipping services and ensuring compliance with documentation activities required for inbound shipping activities. Reporting to the Head of Logistics, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and timely movement of goods from international destinations. You will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing all aspects of the shipping process by working closely with established internal teams, carriers, and suppliers to guarantee accurate, efficient, and compliant shipments.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Liaise with Group Shipping for quotes, rates, shipment scheduling, and consolidation.
- Coordinate with vendors and warehouse teams to ensure timely scheduling and delivery of stock.
- Track and monitor shipments, provide updates, and resolve delays, damages, or discrepancies.
- Manage sample parcels for the Merchandise Team.
- Ensure documentation compliance with current shipping regulations and SARS requirements.
- Optimise processes for efficiency and cost savings; onboard and train suppliers on systems and procedures.
- Prepare and verify shipping documentation, clearance instructions, and support with landed cost calculations.
- Collaborate with Mr Price Shipping team to align processes and facilitate smooth import clearance and delivery.
- Proactively manage the order book and flag any new port to obtain rates.
- Vet and sign off 3PL invoices to ensure correct rates are invoiced.
- Ensure APN numbers are endorsed in the Commercial Invoice (CI) so it can be properly acquitted with SARS.
- Liaise internally regarding new product regulations for importation.
Who you’ll be working with
Internally, you will be part of the Logistics Team and collaborate closely with the Group Shipping Teams and Wholesale Team. Externally, you will be interacting with suppliers, couriers and freight forwarders.
What experience and skills do you need for the role
Experience:
Necessary: At least 2+ years experience in a Shipping Co-ordinator role within a retail or wholesale business. A clear understanding of shipping, freight forwarding and clearance processes.
Qualifications:
- Matric or equivalent.
- Proven experience as a Shipping Coordinator or in a similar role within the logistics industry.
- Strong organisational and multitasking skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of international shipping regulations and customs procedures is a plus.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
- Problem-solving skills with a proactive and positive attitude.
- Experience in working with Microsoft and Google Business applications.
