Remote Content and Audience Development Officer Job Vacancy at MambaOnline | R15 000 p/m
MambaOnline is South Africa’s leading LGBTQ+ news and lifestyle platform. As we continue to grow our impact and reach, particularly in the Western Cape, we are seeking a dynamic and creative Content and Audience Development Officer to join our team and strengthen our Cape Town presence.
Role overview
This junior to mid-level position is ideal for a skilled multimedia content creator in the Cape Town area with a passion for digital journalism, LGBTQ+ media and community, and audience engagement. You’ll be responsible for producing compelling content and implementing strategies to grow and engage our audience in Cape Town and beyond, across digital platforms.
Key responsibilities
Content creation (60% of effort)
- Produce one daily piece of original content.
- Generate one multimedia piece of content every two weeks.
- Cover Cape Town LGBTQ+ events and community developments through articles, photos, and short-form video.
- Generate content that aligns with MambaOnline’s tone, editorial priorities, and community values.
Audience growth and engagement (25% of effort)
- Analyse and monitor website analytics and social media metrics to identify growth opportunities.
- Develop and implement strategies to increase traffic, social media followers, and newsletter subscriptions.
- Manage and respond to audience feedback to inform content direction and improve user experience.
Community engagement (15% of effort)
- Maintain a consistent presence for MambaOnline at LGBTQ+ events and relevant community spaces in Cape Town.
- Design and run reader surveys, polls and other engagement tools to collect insights and inform editorial and product development.
Key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Content Output: Minimum of 40 original pieces, 40 curated or aggregated pieces and 4 multimedia pieces per month.
- Audience Engagement: Doubling growth in our Cape Town-based site visitors (currently 10% of our audience), a measurable increase in social media engagement and following, and newsletter sign-ups.
- Content reach: 25% Increase in average page views and time spent on MambaOnline content in the first quarter, and 50% in the first six months.
- Community presence: Participation in or coverage of at least two key local events per month.
- Engagement tools: At least one strategically valuable audience survey, poll or feedback initiative conducted every two months.
Remuneration and application
A fee of R15,000 a month (cost to company) will be offered. The role is designed to accommodate flexibility, with some event coverage requiring availability on evenings or weekends. Requirements
- Proven experience in digital journalism, multimedia content creation, and social media management.
- Demonstrated knowledge of LGBTQ+ issues and sensitivity in reporting on
- marginalised communities.
- A strong understanding of and connection to Cape Town’s LGBTQ+ community and issues.
- Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to create engaging articles, captions and multimedia content.
- Experience with social media storytelling (e.g. Reels, TikTok, Instagram stories).
- Familiarity with social media scheduling, SEO, and web analytics tools (e.g. Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics).
- Proficiency in photo, video, and audio production/editing tools (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Canva, Lightroom, CapCut, or similar).
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
