PEPPS SCHOOLS is Hiring a SENIOR BOOKKEEPER
Purpose of the role: To manage and maintain accurate financial records, ensure compliance with statutory requirements, prepare management reports, and supervise junior finance staff to achieve organisational financial objectives.
Reports to: Business Manager
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain general ledger, process creditors & debtors, perform bank reconciliations, manage cashbook, maintain asset register & depreciation schedules.
- Prepare monthly management accounts with variance analysis,assist with budgets & forecasts, and generate ad hoc reports.
- Prepare & submit VAT, PAYE, UIF, and SDL returns, ensure compliance with accounting standards and legislation.
- Prepare audit schedules, liaise with auditors, and assist with yearend close.
- Oversee junior finance staff, review work, provide training & mentorship.
- Maintain and improve financial control systems, ensure proper documentation and secure record filing.
Skills & Competencies
- Advanced bookkeeping knowledge to balance sheet.
- Proficiency in accounting software (Pastel, Sage, Xero, or QuickBooks).
- Strong Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables, lookups).
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
Requirements
- Matric with Accounting & Mathematics.
- Diploma or higher qualification in Accounting/Finance.
- Minimum 5 years’ bookkeeping experience, at least 3 years in a senior role.
- A willingness to work within the framework and expectations set by the PEPPS Trust.
