POSITION OVERVIEW:

AISJ seeks a compassionate, proactive, and experienced Boarding House Parent (BHP) to join our boarding program, which provides a nurturing, safe, and inclusive “home away from home” for students aged 12–18. The BHP plays a central role in the wellbeing, safety, and holistic development of boarders while maintaining strong partnerships with families and the wider school community.

Applicants should bring previous experience in residential care or boarding, ideally within an international or culturally diverse environment, and demonstrate a clear understanding of safeguarding and child protection best practices.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required; teaching or counselling qualification preferred.
  • Experience working in a boarding or residential setting with adolescents (essential).
  • Up-to-date CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to complete upon hire).
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities; training in line with international standards will be provided and required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, parents, and external agencies.
  • Discretion, emotional intelligence, resilience, and a well-developed sense of humour.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Technological literacy, including basic proficiency in email, spreadsheets, and school information systems.
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency or high-stress situations.
  • Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development and reflective practice

Key Responsibilities

Pastoral Care & Student Wellbeing

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students by being a visible, approachable, and supportive presence in the boarding House
  • Monitor students’ emotional, physical, and social well-being, including sleep, stress, homesickness, and academic pressures
  • Communicate concerns promptly to the relevant school counsellors, safeguarding leads, and health professionals.
  • Help students settle into life at AISJ, supporting routines that foster balance, healthy habits, and personal growth.
  • Foster a culture of inclusivity, mutual respect, and accountability in the house.

Supervision & Safety:  

  • Be on call overnight during duty period, responding to emergencies and ensuring a secure and orderly environment.
  • Ensure the Boarding House is secure and compliant with health and safety protocols, including routine room checks and oversight of communal spaces.
  • Provide first aid care outside school nurse hours and liaise with guardians and emergency services when needed.
  • Participate in a rotating weekend duty schedule, with presence required when students are on campus.
  • Participate in the preparation of detailed design plans and specifications for civil structures (e.g., buildings, roads, infrastructure) for construction, repair, and maintenance activities.

Community Building & Communication

  • Participate in weekly boarding house meetings with students and staff to share announcements, address concerns, and build community spirit.
  • Attend weekly BHP team meetings, bi-weekly meetings with student leaders, and monthly coordination meetings with the full pastoral care team (Principals, Counselors, BHPs).
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student wellbeing, behavioral matters, and successes.
  • Actively support and help lead cultural, recreational, and enrichment activities that contribute to a vibrant boarding life.

House Operations & Administration 

  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, health concerns, behavior, and communication with families.
  • Ensure cleanliness and orderliness of bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, and shared spaces; perform and document
  • regular room inspections.
  • Report and follow up on maintenance and facility issues in a timely manner.
  • Assist with arrival and departure procedures at term beginnings and ends, including student transport and orientation.
