How to get a Remote Job at Xneelo South Africa
About the Company
Xneelo is a South African web-hosting company that was established in 1999. The company offers facilities to clients that allow them to maintain sites, ensuring that they are always visible and available on the World Wide Web.
Xneelo offers a wide variety of services to its clients. They are known for being reputable and having state-of-the-art data centres across the country that are fully equipped with the latest technology and advanced security measures in place to secure all their client’s data.
The company is renowned and has won many international awards highlighting the high quality and top-notch standard of services provided.
Types of Jobs They Hire
Xneelo’s mission is to build a world-class tech team. With that in mind, the company employs individuals who can add value to the mission with their skills and expertise. Many of the jobs have an underlying technological component that is required.
These are a few of the jobs that have been advertised by Xneelo:
- Software Engineers
- Backend Software Engineers
- Platform Engineers
- DevOps Engineer
- Web Developers
- Technical Support Specialists
- Data Analysts
Less technical roles include:
- Marketing Specialist
- Client Service Consultant
- Talent Administrator
- Support Consultant
- Legal and Procurement Specialist
These roles are not always available. If you are interested, I would suggest regularly checking the company website for one that suits your expertise.
Locations they hire from:
With the help of LinkedIn, I was able to gather the locations of all Xneelo’s current employees. The company currently has staff based in:
- Cape Town
- Johannesburg
- Pretoria
- Lviv, Ukraine
- British Columbia, Canada
- Vancouver, Canada
A large majority of Xneelo employees are based in South Africa. The company does have remote work flexibility for non-South Africans.
Qualifications & Experience Required
Xneelo does not have the ‘one-size-fits-all’ requirement list. Due to the nature of Xneelo, I would say that many of the roles are quite specialised, and requirements are, therefore, very role-specific.
The minimum required would be to have a degree and experience in the role that you have taken an interest in. The degree depends on what job you are applying for. For both the more technical and less technical roles, having experience and qualifications in the related field of work would be beneficial to you.
Tools & Materials that are Required
One of the benefits offered to their staff by Xneelo is supplying laptops and other technical requirements. The company provides everything that staff would need, so I would suggest having a stable Wi-Fi connection and alternative power supplies would be advantageous to you.
A Xneelo employee stated that you need to have ‘the best’ internet connectivity available. That is basically high-speed internet with fast upload and download speed.
Pros of working for Xneelo
Xneelo lists a number of benefits that are available to their staff. If you would like a detailed list, you can visit the website. The company definitely does the most to entice talented individuals to join their team. Many reviews on Glassdoor make reference to the ‘amazing company culture and benefits’ that Xneelo offers.
Flexible and Remote working:
With Xneelo, you have the option of working from home or the office – if you are based in Cape Town. The flexible schedule allows you to plan your day as you see fit. You have the freedom to come and go as long as you complete all work in a timely manner. This is such a luxury to be offered.
Tools and Materials are provided:
Xneelo provides all staff members with laptops and any other technical requirements that would be needed to complete their work. With the rising cost of good quality, affordable tech, this is a huge financial save for prospective employees. Also, you are guaranteed always to have functioning and top-of-the-range equipment to aid your day-to-day operations.
Subsidised daycare for small children:
This benefit is dependent on an employee’s term of service at Xneelo. If you’re a new employee and a parent at that, this would be a wonderful incentive to keep you at Xneelo in the long run. This is quite a rare benefit for a company to offer, so those who have the privilege of reaping it are the lucky ones.
Comprehensive medical aid provided:
I’ve noticed with a lot of remote companies that offering medical aid, or even some sort of hospital cover is never included. Xneelo goes above and beyond for its employees by providing medical aid for staff and eligible dependents. If you’ve searched, then you know that the cost of financing your own (and families’) medical aid, is an exorbitant cost – one that I’m sure many would be more than happy to share (or hand over completely) to their employers.
Cons of Working for Xneelo
I so enjoy scouring the internet for current and previous employees’ experiences at companies. Like many companies, promising is one thing, but delivery is more important than anything else.
Disconnect amongst staff:
A current employee of more than eight years noted that Xneelo has not yet found a way to harmoniously bring together staff to form a solidarity of sorts. With remote working, this is usually a common occurrence. The lack of in-person interaction usually prevents a heartfelt and meaningful relationship from being formed among staff members.
Time-zone changes:
Should you be employed by Xneelo, you have to consider the possibility of working outside normal working hours to accommodate staff in other time zones. I noticed that on one of the job descriptions, it was noted that you would be required to work and have meetings at times that are conducive for staff members in other countries.
High staff turnover:
Many reviews noted that Xneelo has quite a high number of employees who leave the company. Now, this could be for many reasons, but when it happens quite regularly, it is usually an indication of something within the company causing instability or unhappiness.
