How to get started with affiliate marketing in 2024 with no followers

Spread the love

The term affiliate marketing was something I bumped into as I started to consume more and more content that centered around money-making. At first, it seemed as though it as difficult, I mean, how do you even get companies to work with you, where does one even get the links… and traffic, where do I get the people to sign up? In this post, I will give you a crash course in 3 simple points (no fluff)… how to start your foray into affiliate marketing.

Before we start, let us debunk a few myths. You do not have to be a social media influencer or a celebrity for you to partner with companies and get links. And yes, your few Facebook friends and Instagram followers are “the traffic”. Chances are they will click and purchase using your link because they trust you. A lot of companies actually trust nano and micro “influencers” because research says that your audience ill be concentrated and not diluted. Now that we both know we can do this lets get to it!

Select a niche

Once you delve into the world of making money online, it is quite easy to get lost in the world of content. The categories are just endless. It has to be noted that it is easy to get lost and feel overwhelmed by the possibilities and “opportunities”.

A few niches to consider are

  • Health & Wellness
  • Money & Wealth
  • Gaming Niches
  • Lifestyle Niches
  • Romance Niches
  • Hobby Niches
  • Travel Niches and so on

When selecting a niche, choose something that you enjoy talking or writing about. There are huge advantages of selecting a niche because it makes you a “master” of something, trusted source, and from doing this you can have a concentrated audience and it is also easier to grow your platform as your audience knows what to expect from you.

However, it has to be noted that there are other niches that are more profitable than others. Just as a side note, just because a niche is profitable, if you do not love it or you have no urge to work on it, do not. Creating content is hard work.

How to get signed up by companies

A few years ago it was hard to partner with companies and to get links that you can track successfully to see how many sales you have made. (That is also a tip, make sure that each company you sign up with can show you the stats and that you can easily see how many clients you drove their way).

This part is honestly the easy part, most companies now know that influencers are an important part of their business such that they have integrated it into their business models. Select a company or business you want to partner with… go onto their website and check where they say “work with us” or “affiliate” or something similar. Often they will ask you to sign up and they will give you a unique URL (link) to use. However, some bigger companies are known to be selective. They might need you to put in your stats/analytics/press kit. As your audience grows you will soon be eligible for these. A note (Do not purchase any products to promote) If they ask you to pay or buy before getting a link RUN!!!! It is an MLM. No one needs that type of energy in 2020.

How to market your affiliate links

Traffic traffic traffic and damn you algorithm!! Okay, I needed to vent. I will not lie, it is not easy to get traffic to your sites. I mean, who are you, people do not know you, you are starting out. BUT do not be deterred start small, when I started my YouTube channel a year ago (2019) I did not have any followers/subscribers but because with every signup that I have for my AIRBNB and SnapnSave; the people that signed up they received “free” money, discount or generally it was solving their problem.

Put up posts related to your link. This then makes sense to point number 1 of finding a niche. I have found that Pinterest is the best platform to get traffic to affiliate links. Research states that:

As a last note, be vigilant. Read all the terms and conditions and make sure that you are promoting trusted products as it is your link/business/name people will be using to sign up. As an “influencer” even with 100 followers, you have the power to impact someone through your recommendations!
